F.A.Q. (draft)
How can I get off to a good start in this fabulous Chicago Hipmama group?
- If you click on the Calendar page, you'll see that we try to have a monthly Meet and Greet. Why not sign up to go? You'll get a chance to meet some of us, and we look forward to meeting you!
- You could also introduce yourself on the messageboard. There is a New Member Intro thread that not only gives us a chance to get to know you, but you can read through it and get a gander at what we're all about, as well.
- We can't stress posting on the messageboard enough. You don't even have to start a post - just replying to someone else's post is a great way to dip your toe in the water. (To post a reply, look for an "Add a reply" link at the bottom of a post.)
I want to attend a Meetup soon... but it seems like something always comes up.
This is a close-knit community that always has the door open. Even if you can't make it to a Meetup, we want to know that you're still interested in being an active member. You can always drop an Organizer a line explaining your dilemma. We're filled with real people who get together in real life - it's more than just another internet forum.
I read the rule that says that one must attend a Meetup or post on the board every 30 days. What can I do about this? How do I R.S.V.P. for an event/playgroup?
- Read the event description very carefully. Often there will be directions to a hostess's house, or a request of what to bring/what not to bring, or even information that matters to you directly (such as whether they have pets that you're allergic to).
- The calendar page will ask you, "Can you attend?"
- Click on either yes, no, or maybe.
- And if you have a question about something, there is a handy comment section right there on the page called "Talk about this meeting."
- Running Late!!!...Most of the time, 10:30am may mean 11:30am. We all have the best intentions of getting to events on time so we encourage members to post their ETA in their RSVP.
- always, always check the calendar right before you leave to attend an event, just in case it's been canceled.
- Please be considerate and update your RSVP if something changes you can't attend.
Should I count my child as a guest?
Nope, there's no need. This is a mom's group, and if there's a playgroup on the calendar, we know you're bringing your kid! What should I bring to a Meetup?
Bring yourself, your babies, and if you can...a healthy dish to share (but only if you feel like it - if you have a colicky three month old, say no more) and please try to bring your own plates & silverware with you, so we don't have to go thru tons of paper plates and plastic ware this year. How will I find you at a Meetup?
Usually, for public events, members try to post cell phone numbers in the RSVP comments on the calendar page. Posting identifying marks (such as what color shirt you'll be wearing that day) is also helpful. Please also post approximate arrival times.OK, I have attended a few Meetups, have met a lot of people, and have even made a few friends. Now that I've broken some ground,
