Black swan: a large-impact, hard-to-predict, and rare event beyond the realm of normal expectations. Every organization has black swans that push the things forward. This is where such people convene to support each other and grow.
Black Swans, by definition are disruptive. We don't always agree with each other - indeed we shouldn't, if we want true discussion. But we love to engage in healthy debate and always do our best for our learners. We love PROGRESS.
The best part: as a quasi-secret society, we get to hang out with people who understand our motivations and our passions.
Some areas are open to non-members. We invite you to look around. If you think the Black Swan Society is a good fit for your active membership, take a second to complete the questions and post a representative avatar in the membership request. Let us know how you found out about us.
Active membership includes posting and/or commenting at least once a week. There are lots of ways to do this, as this community has blogs, wikis, member pages and discussion boards.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m writing a book on mobile learning. My only previous experience was writing Engaging Learning, where the prose practically exploded from my fingers. This time is different. The prose actually does flow quite easily f [...]

A South African airline called Kulula has apparently rebranded its aeroplanes, settling on an 'aeroplane for dummies' approach. This is the sort of thing that could so easily be a hoax, so I've done a bit of background searching and can't confirm or refut [...]

Listening to a Training Magazine Network recording of Allison Rossett talking about what e-learning is and isn't, I came across this YouTube video. Good for a chortle. Have you considered First Life for your business meetings, yet? ;o)

It doesn't seem all that long ago that I got a call from Dr. Karl Kapp asking me if I'd mind being interviewed for his and Dr. Tony O'Driscoll's new book on virtual worlds for learning. When he told me that he wanted to talk to me about the future of vir [...]

It was on this day in 1990 that President FW de Klerk announced the decision to release Nelson Mandela from prison. His actual release date was 11 February 1990. So, once the decision had been announced, the wheels of bureaucracy moved comparatively qu [...]

I overheard a conversation today between two members of the sales staff at a sporting goods shop. They were discussing someone who wore one of those ankle tag doodads and were expressing their surprise and disbelief. This person was apparently not 'the t [...]
